Description

Oh boy this was a tedious one to draw, those lights on the underside of the balcony especially, and also it's ages old, hence why the quality is somewhat less than my works of late.

I originally drew this for a romantic comic series I was going to set in 1990's New York, and the couple would find their way here to the lobby of the World Trade Center's North Tower in the middle of the night, but I scrubbed that project because I couldn't really think of a closure to the story. Perhaps it'll end up in another project one day. :)

But on a technical note, probably one of the best part of the former Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York were the lobbies, which were 6 storeys high, lined with polished marble and adorned with the flags of all the nations this international centre of commerce served. Sadly, the lobby of the New World Trade Center is one of my many points of contention with the tower, as it's much more compact and cramped, this on the other hand was a void of open space that you could really get a sense of size with, a truly magnificent architectural feat.

Magnificent work of the lobby! Not many people give their time to draw something such as the Twins' lobby, most just draw the exterior, which does get old seeing a million pictures of.
I admire that. 90's New York is a subject I'm fascinated with myself; that's a very neat idea you had there. I plan to write stories that take place within the original Trade Center soon.

I really agree. The lobbies were timeless gems...Long rows of the Middle Eastern-inspired (according to Yamasaki) "tridents" showed unparalleled beauty and let in a large amount of light. It also housed the entrance to The Mall at the World Trade Center underground, which partially survived the collapse. However, the mezzanine and Plaza were destroyed entirely...The lobby of the new One World Trade Center is terrible. It is much, much smaller, extremely sterile, and way more closed off...It's also a shame Windows wasn't rebuilt.

I'm still intent on building the entire original complex in Minecraft though, I'm looking forward to it.
